FON-NJ Projects
Nepal Education Project
Seventy five percent of the membership dues will be dedicated and channeled to scholarship programs in Nepal. Currently, there are 24 students being supported in four towns—Patan, Rautahat, Chadranigahpur and Kathmandu. The Education Committee will coordinate and look after this project. Micro-loan Project - Income Generating Program
FON-NJ has supported 32 widowed and underprivileged women in Kathmandu and Jhapa in coordination with Mahila Adarsha Sewa Kendra (MASK) in Kathmandu. The loan will be used to help underprivileged women start new businesses of their choice in Nepal. MASK will coordinate and select the recipients. The Women’s Development Committee will coordinate and raise funds for this project. If anyone interested in being a member of this committee, please contact Webmaster

Panche Baja Inauguration Project
"Panche Baja", a set of traditional Nepali musical instruments was generously donated, a decade ago, by Mr. Krishna Man Manandhar as a gift from Nepal to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The items were in storage and not in the museum. As requested by Mr. Manandhar, FON-NJ coordinated with the Museum to have these instruments permanently displayed on the floor. On June 17th 2003, amidst a function, the instruments were permanently put on display for all to enjoy.
Community Health Clinic
FON-NJ has supported a free health clinic in Ikhalakhu, Patan. This project supports healthcare needs of the community in Ikhalakhu, Patan via free health clinic and free medicine for people who cannot afford to visit a doctor. The donation will be used to purchase medicine, first-aid kits and other medical items.
Youth Leadership Program
This is a 10-month long program to develop civic leadership through education and exploration of issues affecting Patan’s community where students from different high schools and colleges will be taught about leadership skills. Participants will be part of a ten month program of monthly meeting focusing on issues in Patan.
Community leaders from all aspects of Patan district will present various topics. The objectives of this program are:
o To create a network of young community leaders to guide the future of the community.
o To prepare diverse individuals for leadership through education and workshops.
