FON-NJ Projects

Nepal Education Project

Seventy five percent of the membership dues will be dedicated and channeled to Scholarship programs in Nepal. Currently, the scholarship fund of close to US $ 800.00 will be forwarded to sponsor 10 students in Nepal. The criteria for the scholarship require that the recipients maintain 75% passing grade in their studies. These selected students are currently enrolled in Bal Vikas Secondary School located in Patan. Profiles and interviews of the students will be carried out soon and communicated to all via our website- www.fonnj.org. If you have a contact or would like to help any school, please let us know.

Micro-loan Project - Income Generating Program

FON-NJ executive will be working with the Mahila Adarsha Sewa Kendra (MASK) in Kathmandu on a Micro-Loan – IG Program. This year US$ 300.00 will be allocated to sponsor three widows in Kathmandu. The low interest loan will be used to help underprivileged women start new business in Nepal. The MASK will coordinate and select the recipients. Members of FON-NJ will have an opportunity to visit these recipients during their visits to Nepal and interview them. The Women’s Development Committee will coordinate and raise funds for this project. If anyone interested in being a member of this committee, please contact us at http://www.fonnj.org

Special Project

NY Modern Art Museum Project: “Panche Baja”, a set of traditional Nepali musical instruments was generously donated, a decade ago, by Mr. Krishna Man Manandhar as a gift from Nepal to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Mr. Manandhar, former Chief Librarian of the American Center Library and Buddhist monk, has requested the FONNJ to execute this project to have these instruments permanently display at the Museum. The FONNJ has already met with the director of the Museum and he has shown an interest in having these instruments displayed permanently. We will be working to coordinate the opening of the event sometime next year with a grand opening ceremony. If anyone interested serving on this committee, please let us know.
